Traditional hand-woven velvet and brocades
There are
four looms
for weaving gold and silver brocade and four looms for figured velvet in operation
at the Foundation. The velvet designs
were part of the legacy of the old manufacture
founded by Giuseppe Lisio in 1907. They include all the designs
from the middle ages to the nineteenth century copied from original
materials or reproduced from examples in Italian paintings. The
Foundation also produces small quantities of cloth in individually
chosen colours, dyed and made to order.

Velvets, brocades and other hand-made
textiles with special designs
New patterns,
especially designed, can be exclusively created to a modular
or piazzato scheme. Each motif is studied to see
how it might be reproduced to greatest effect by combining modern
design with old techniques or classical designs with the latest
threads. Experimentation is also carried out on traditional techniques
in order to produce particular effects, inspired by samples of
original cloth.
