Pescara, 21 Feb 2026 – The conference "Decorative Symbols and Textile Memory in the Abruzzo Apennines" offers a fascinating journey into the hidden symbolism of the region's textile artefacts. The protagonist of the event will be ethno-anthropologist Adriana Gandolfi, a renowned scholar of Abruzzo and Molise traditions, who will guide the audience through a multimedia presentation.
Through comparative analysis, Gandolfi will illustrate the symbolic systems of decorative arts, exploring their roots in the cultures and religious traditions that have interwoven throughout the history of the Mediterranean basin. The core of the conference will be the comparison between symbolic models and repertoires of diverse origins and natures and those recurring on textiles crafted in the Abruzzo Apennines over the last two centuries.
These symbols, masterfully imprinted by the hands of women, reveal themselves as true "traces of ancient and ancestral memories" – an intangible heritage passed down through generations via female industriousness.
The research highlights how local weaving safeguards a complex and deeply rooted symbolic language.
