Florence Heritage: A Dialogue Between Tradition, Design and Craftsmanship
Florence Heritage is an exhibition organised by the Degree Programme in Fashion System Design at the University of Florence and presented as part of Welcome Week, promoted by the School of Architecture.
The exhibition is hosted in the historic monumental complex of Santa Maria degli Angeli, in the heart of Florence, at the de' Medici Museum, directed by Samuele Lastrucci.
Inspired by the Italian Renaissance and the history of the Medici family, the exhibition showcases the results of an educational and design project developed within the Master’s Degree Programme in Fashion System Design, under the coordination of Elisabetta Benelli and Francesca Filippi.
Thanks to the contribution of Gianfranco Lotti, the students’ ideas have been transformed into fine accessories, in which the Florentine leathercraft tradition meets design culture and contemporary expression.
The exhibition is further enriched by project books created by students from the Design Communication workshop, who visually reinterpret the bag designs and the related documentation originally developed by Fashion System Design students. This exchange highlights the value of collaboration between different degree programmes within the design and fashion sectors.
The exhibition layout is completed by glass and ceramic totems designed and produced by students from the Design workshop, coordinated by Debora Giorgi and Angelo Menisci. These elements enhance the exhibition through a dialogue of forms, materials and visual languages.
Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio contributed to the development of the projects by generously providing the students with the fabrics used to create the accessories. This collaboration renews the connection between education, design research and textile heritage, highlighting the value of craftsmanship and silk culture as living resources for contemporary creativity.
The Foundation is pleased to support initiatives that foster connections between traditional manufacturing, education and the new generations of designers.
