Starting from historically-used dye plants (pre-extracted) and dyeing raw wool, silk and cotton yarns, students will create colour cards for use in identification and restoration of ancient textiles.

Through various dyeing and reduction techniques, we will explore the fascinating world of INDIGO, a colouring agent that has always attracted and continues to attract the attention of restorers, stylists and end consumers (jeans).

The course covers traditional Shibori techniques for tie-dye, stitch-dye, fold-dye, pole wrap-dye, etc. as well as three-dimensional effects, appropriate for creation of garments having great impact and artistic interest.
