Advanced Haute Couture Embroidery – Lunéville Embroidery
Instructor: Franca Verteramo
The course is aimed at participants who already have a basic knowledge of using the Lunéville hook and those who have already completed the beginner course.
In this module, we will explore different applications of the hook technique, creating a mixed-technique textile piece. The hook will be used to create filling stitches with thread, apply chains or cords, and outline an embroidery element that can be detached from the fabric and later re-applied.
Lunéville crochet embroidery is the technique most widely used in Haute Couture. Compared to needle embroidery, the Lunéville technique allows for faster and more precise applications of beads and sequins.
The work is carried out on the reverse side of the fabric, which is stretched on a frame, using a crochet hook to create a chain stitch that secures the various materials—such as beads and sequins—one by one. It is commonly known as Lunéville embroidery, a technique patented by the French but not exclusive to their textile tradition.
