GUIDED VISIT AND THEORETICAL LECTURE
ON EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY TEXTILE MOTIFS

Instructor Lorenzo Pesci

Didactic module 6 hours and a half

The two study days will focus on the evolution of certain types of textile decoration in the eighteenth century, a highly intense and varied artistic period in which stylistic changes followed one another at a faster pace than in the past.

The most significant and continuous themes of the period—caprice, exoticism, the analytical study of nature, as well as the ideals of restraint and rationality that governed ornamentation at the end of the century—will be presented through an iconographic repertoire projected in the classroom and through a selection of original textile samples, consisting of liturgical vestments, largely derived from secular clothing items.

II MODULE | 25/26 March 2020

25 March
from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

DESIGN OF A DECORATIVE PATTERN

Instructor Daniela Lotti

Didactic module 10 hours

Students will be provided with a series of modules featuring figurative themes and decorative motifs typical of the eighteenth century, as addressed in the theoretical part.

They will be required to combine them in order to create the compositional structure of the design, seeking the correct proportions with the background, so as to achieve a harmonious composition that respects the aesthetic ideal of the period.

III MODULE | 26/27 March 2020

26 March
from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

27 March
