Sustainability in the Workplace: From Organisational Models to the Working Environment

Lecturer: Dr Nicola Balbi

-Board Member of ADACI – Italian Association for Purchasing and Supply Chain Management.

In recent years, many companies have adopted environmental and social sustainability practices, making the concept of sustainability increasingly familiar. However, when we speak about sustainability within an organisation—its governance and internal structure—its meaning becomes more nuanced.

Internal corporate sustainability follows the same principles as environmental and social sustainability, but focuses on the impact that organisations have on people, and on how corporate policies influence the everyday lives of employees.

These policies go beyond organisational structures, inclusion, codes of ethics, and compliance systems. They also encompass workplace safety, diversity, work-life balance, employee well-being, and internal communication—all essential elements in creating a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable working environment.
