Seminar | "Words of Fire: Mary Magdalene and Saint Catherine of Alexandria in 14th- to 18th-century iconography"
"Bags and purses, the aesthetic/symbolic evolution of an apparently functional accessory, from 1795 to the present "

Chair: Sara Piccolo Paci

Mary Magdalene is the saint miraculously dressed in her own hair, Catherine a young noblewoman who gave up her privileged status – and her life – in the name of Christ.

The two saints have two specific qualities in common: their love for Christ and their ability to use the Word.

We will see, during the course of a mystical/symbolic reading, how these two attributes are given form in representations of the saints and their clothing.
